The event is to be part of Wonderboom Airport's 80th birthday celebrations and in partnership with the City of Tshwane, Airlink and the tenants of Wonderboom airport, some of whom have been operating at the since its early days, the organisers would like to see the airport flourish again. They have decided to take it upon themselves to put on the 'Adrenaline Show', which will be a combination of Hot Rod cars, Muscle cars, Superbikes and an air show featuring the best of the South African displays. Considered to be a first for South African air shows, will be the 4,1Km race track and a 950 metre drag race strip, which will give attendees a unique mix of aviation and motorsport over the two days, with the 10 June marked as the career day. Group Captain M. Rangachari was with him in the twin-seater trainer aircraft. "It is a moral boosting gesture from the IAF Chief and reposes great confidence of our valuable customer in our abilities", said Mr. T. Suvarna Raju, CMD, HAL. The Air Chief Marshal carried out manoeuvers in the entire flying envelope of the aircraft. He carried out simulated air to air and air to ground attacks. He also assessed the advanced modes of the radar and Helmet Mounted Display Sight (HMDs). An ace fighter pilot himself, Air Chief Marshal Raha appreciated the flying qualities of the aircraft. He congratulated the entire team of HAL and others involved in getting the LCA program to this stage. The series production of the Tejas aircraft has already commenced at HAL Bengaluru and the first squadron of the LCA is expected to be formed by July 2016. FIFI TO RETURN TO OSHKOSH FOR EAA AIRVENTURE OSHKOSH 2016  Photo credit ©Jim Koepnick FIFI is the main star of the CAF AirPower History Tour which regularly tours the U.S. bringing the sights, smells, and sounds of WWII aviation to Americans of all ages. FIFI's dedicated crews volunteer thousands of hours to honour the sacrifice of the men and women of WWII and Korea. "We are very pleased that FIFI will once again be on display at Boeing Centennial Plaza at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh," said Jack Pelton, president of EAA. "The CAF and FIFI have a deep appreciation to EAA for making it possible for the plane to return," said CAF President Stephan Brown. "This is the one place in the world where so many can view up close and personal the iconic aircraft of WWII, as well as thousands of show planes. We are honoured to be a part of it." The airplane will arrive on Monday, July 25. As an added feature, FIFI will be available for a limited number of rides. Visit Air Power's tour website for more information. The B-29 will be accompanied at Appleton by the P-51 Mustang Gunfighter and two World War II trainers - a PT-13 Stearman and T-6 Texan.  Photo © Willie Bodenstein FIFI is celebrating her 41st year of operation as the World's only flying B-29 Superfortress. The CAF hopes that FIFI will soon be joined in the air by Doc, another B-29 progressing toward flight. The Boeing B-29 Superfortress, first flown in 1942, began active service in 1944 and is best known as the aircraft whose missions over Japan helped bring about the end of World War II. It was designed as a replacement for the older B-17s and B-24s, with longer range and greater bomb loads. The B-29 was the first pressurized American bomber and represented state of the art technology at the time. The B-29 was also used in the Korean War in the early 1950s and was a staple of the U.S. Air Force until the late 1950s. This year is Boeing's centennial celebration.  Photos © Ebace As the 2016 edition of the European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE2016) organizers said the show continued to demonstrate, in a variety of ways, its standing as Europe's foremost business aviation event, and its value to exhibitors and attendees alike. "This year's show was a terrific success, characterized by a full exhibit floor, with lots of business getting done," noted EBAA CEO Fabio Gamba. "It's an affirmation that EBACE remains Europe's most important industry event." EBACE2016 attendees came from more than 100 countries, from the European region and beyond. USA, Virginia Beach: Four Navy aviators ejected "at a high rate of speed" from two F/A-18 Super Hornet jet fighters following an "in-flight mishap" that happened during a training exercise. The aircraft plunged into the Atlantic Ocean off the North Carolina coast. The four crew members suffered only minor injuries. Two of the aviators were rescued by the crew of the commercial fishing vessel and the other two survivors were hoisted out of the water by a Coast Guard helicopter. Somalia, Mogadishu: A military court in Somalia has sentenced two men to life in prison for masterminding a bomb attack on a Daallo Airlines passenger plane in February. A former security official at the main airport in Mogadishu, Abdiwali Mahmud Maow, was given the life sentence, along with Arais Hashi Abdi, who was tried in absentia as he had evaded arrest. The blast, shortly after take-off from Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, killed the bomber and left a hole in the plane's fuselage. Somalia's militant Islamist group al-Shabab said it carried out the attack. Eight other people, including a woman, were sentenced to between six months and four years in prison.  5 JUNE 5 1909 The first monoplane flight of over one hour is made by Hubert Latham on the Antoinette IV for one hour, seven minutes, 37 seconds.  Latham was born in Paris into a wealthy Protestant family. His French mother's family were the bankersand his father, Lionel Latham, was the son of Charles Latham, an English merchant adventurer and trader of indigo and other commodities, who had settled in Le Havre in 1829 Latham's interest in flying started after he had witnessed several of the performances by Wilbur Wright, who was in France trying to sell his aeroplane to the French Government, in his Flyer at Camp d'Auvours, near Le Mans. Intrigued with the idea of flying, Latham searched for an aeroplane company that would train him as a pilot. He selected the Antoinette company headed by Jules Gastambide, a distant cousin.
