While many exhibitions measure success by the number of visitors through the gates, AERO South Africa has established itself as an event where the quality of business opportunities outweighs the size of the crowd. The 2026 edition once again demonstrated that bringing together the right people can be far more valuable than attracting the largest audience.
The people that brought you AeroAfrica 2026
Organised by Messe Frankfurt South Africa in partnership with Fairnamic GmbH, the joint venture of Messe Frankfurt and Messe Friedrichshafen, AERO South Africa continues to gather momentum.
Messe Frankfurt South Africa, a branch of one of Europe's oldest and extensive trade fair organizers, boasts a proficient team of personnel in marketing, sales, and operations at its South African branch.
Beside Aero Africa, an offshoot of the world renowned Aero Friedrichshafen, the company is also responsible for other extremely popular events that include Automechanika Johannesburg, the Festival of Motoring, Boatica Cape Town, Allfashion sourcing, Hobby-X, and Solar Power Africa.
As Southern Africa's premier event for the General Aviation industry, AERO South Africa is without a doubt the ultimate platform to showcase the best that this major sector of the economy has to offer.
AeroAfrica 2026, was the second time that second time that the business-to-business event was hosted at Lanseria International Airport and was the sixth edition of this successful franchise held on our shores.
Visitors, no entrance fee is payable although registering is compulsory, are able to at their leisure view the latest products and innovations in the industry, engage with leading local and from abroad manufacturers and suppliers in the general aviation industry. And added benefit is the 3-day workshops and experimental zones when one can experience the latest innovations and industry trends.
Pilot's Post attended the show on two different days; Kerry Mathyson visited on the opening day mostly to judge the opinion of our new venture, more about that later, while I went on Thursday. Exhibitor's numbers, despite the devastating effect of the implementation of the twelve year rule and the general state of the economy are up from last year with sixty five companies supporting the event.
I spoke to a large number of exhibitors and all, without exception, were happy with having made the investment to exhibit. The type of enquiries was all from interested parties that will result in qualified leads and not from 'tyre kickers' that one find at similar events.
There was, as far as I could establish, definitely more companies from aboard who exhibited their wares and services and during one quick walk through most of the exhibitors had visitors at their stands.
Now firmly established as the premier general aviation business event on the South African aviation calendar, AERO South Africa appears destined for continued growth and increasing international recognition. More importantly, it has demonstrated that its success lies not in attracting the biggest crowds, but in bringing together the right people to do business. In aviation, as in business, success is not always measured by the number of people who arrive, but by the value of the connections they make.
Pilot's Post is indeed honored to again have been a media partner of this prestigious event.
