Once again hosted at the Birchwood Hotel and Conference Centre in Bartlett, Boksburg situated centrally and conveniently and appropriately almost under the approach to landing at either runway 03 or 21 of O. R. Tambo International Airport.

Traditionally the Aero Club's Dinner is the last of the major aviation events of the year and this year it was again so. Pilots Post was present at the awards ceremony as we have been present at all of the year's major events as well as almost all of the minor once.

The task of MC again rested on the shoulders of David le Roux a task he did with flair. At 15.00 David called the ceremony opened and welcomed all the guests as well as the VIP's that included Neil De Lange - SACAA Senior Manager, ASO and Dean Khumalo - SACAA Executive Aviation Safety Operations. Also, present were Felix and Belinda Gosher, Irene and Richardt Lovett and Joanne Herman.

David first introduced Walter Doubell, the aeroclub's acting Chairman for his opening speech and report on the turbulent year that General Aviation faced mostly because of the world wide financial situation but also to a very large extend with the CAA and especially the twelve-year engine rule.

Following Walter was Rob Jonkers, past chairman but still very much in the club. Rob highlighted most, if not all of the problems that faces the club in coming year as well as how the club intend to deal with all the challenges.

The preliminaries over in it was time for the awards proper to commence and as is usual the first awards went to those who in past year had represented to country abroad and were awarded SASCOC National Colours.
