The Circus Airfield Breakfast fly in 13 March 2021

In these strange times, where large gatherings because of Covid 19 are still prohibited, but at least small fly-in's, air rallies and aerobatic competitions are keeping the aviation event scene ticking over.

Although not an official EAA event, the fly-in was organised by Mark Clulow, Alan Steward and Frans Heynecke, all active EAA Chapter 322 members.

Saturday's weather was perfect for flying when Francois Marais and I left for Tedderfield to get the Pegasus ready for the short flight to Circus. We both completely forgot about the landing competition and were rather confused by the people that had gathered at the threshold.











Taxing back, we joined some of the aircraft that were already there before joining friends at the clubhouse for a muffin and welcoming cup of coffee.













Twenty-one aircraft eventually visited, probably the most that had gathered at this delightful little field situated at
S26 29.1 E2803.2 between Alberton and Vereeniging on the farm belonging to Robert Wilkie of Boswell-Wilkie Circus fame and which is home of the Café du Cirque.

Marc Clulow welcomed all before introducing Frans Heynecke, who announced that Lawrence Ryan, who flew his Cessna Tri Pacer ZS-CBO from nearby Vereeniging Airfield, together with two similar aircraft of Bird Aviation, had taken the honours in the spot landing competition judged and which was organised by Alan Steward of the Panorama based Johannesburg Flying Academy.



Although the Big Top is no longer, there is the Café du Cirque, a quaint coffee shop that has become a meeting place of note for both locals and out-of-towners. It is on the cycle training route and over weekends, early mornings are alive with cyclist from near and far. The menu boasts a selection of delicious meals, presented with a flair of their own. Full catering and bar facilities are also on offer.



Lots of banter followed before most took the short walk to Café du Cirque for a really scrumptious, hearty breakfast. More stories were told as old friends met and new friends were made.

Thank you to Marc, Frans and the friendly folk at Circus, who advised that they have hangar space to rent at very reasonable rates and who really went out of their way to make everyone welcome. Let's hope we will have more opportunities to visit the quant field.
