Virtual AirVenture 2020 - A decade of Warbirds highlights

By Willie Bodenstein and Juri Keyter

AirVenture has over the years, without a doubt, brought together the largest variety of ex-military aircraft than any other event in the history of Airshows. Examples of aircraft from most nations have at some stage flown in the skies above Wittmann airfield.

Most of them were common types, others were rare and then there were the precious ones, the only flying examples, the ones that one only dreams about, ever see fly.

The Warbirds Area at Oshkosh is, without a doubt, the place that every visitor to the EAA's Convention will visit at least once during the seven days.

We did when we first visited in 2009, not just once, but four times and have gone at least thrice in subsequent years.

At the centre of the Warbirds area is Warbird Alley, a large display area that profiles several of the rare and unique warbirds from World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War.

The history of legendary wartime aircraft and bravery of the heroic veterans who flew them comes alive every day at the popular Warbirds in Review, held Monday through to Saturday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Warbird Alley.

This concludes our 2020 Virtual tour. Next year, we will hopefully again be there to bring you a fresh perspective in our daily reports of all the action from the world's biggest fly-in.
