The Aero Club Airweek is an aviation event just for aviators, just for Aviation enthusiasts, like you. Our members love aircraft, and anything that flies. From models to jets, aerobatics, gyrocopters, microlights, light sport aircraft, ultralights, gliders, motor gliders, vintage aircraft, and helicopters; and much more. Airshows seem to display the same things, all spectacular but aircraft that generally cost tons of money or are aimed at the public not fellow aviation enthusiasts. So come over for some real grass roots aviation activities. This year Airweek is being held at Middelburg, and the Middelburg Aero Club is putting all the required plans in place together with the Aero Club to host this event. The Airfields details are shown below. Register on-line to indicate your attendance plans and catering needs and if you plan to camp on the field. You are invited to fill in this registration form for Aero Club Airweek 9 to 11 March 2018 www.aeroclub.org.za/newsletters/airweek-registration-flying-in-information Further updates will be circulated or will be found on the website www.aeroclub.org.za Exhibitor's participation and ticket sales were for the 14th annual Sebring Sport Aviation Expo held at Sebring Regional Airport's, United States of America were up from previous years. We are delighted to partner with our Singapore Dealer, Wings Over Asia, for the Singapore Airshow and the launch of our demo tour. Their ideal location at Seletar Airport, enables us to provide an opportunity to engage with aviation enthusiasts and offer customer demonstrations of the M600," said Drew McEwen, Vice President of International and Direct Sales. "Wings Over Asia does an exceptional job of promoting Piper products and general aviation throughout the region, as such, we are looking forward to collaborating with them during Asia's largest aerospace event. This is the ideal opportunity to interact with our customers, prospects and prominent leaders in the industry and showcase the capability of the M600," commented Simon Caldecott, President and CEO of Piper Aircraft." INNOVATIVE YAK-110 COMING TO OSHKOSH The Yak-110, an innovative aerobatic airplane created by attaching two Yak-55s together and adding a jet engine in addition to the two radial engines, is slated to appear and perform at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018 for the first time ever. Photo © Jim Raeder "I can't think of a better place to bring this airplane in its first year," Dell said. "I think everybody who attends the show is really into experimental airplanes, obviously with it being the Experimental Aircraft Association. I think they'll really enjoy seeing this airplane do its thing." Jeff Boerboon, EAA 363600 and pilot of the Yak-110, said he's excited to fly the airplane at AirVenture because he knows the audience will be uniquely prepared to appreciate the one-of-a-kind nature of the aircraft. "That's the great thing about Oshkosh, there are a lot of savvy people there who know about this stuff," Jeff said. Although he admitted it was a little more advanced than his first forays into homebuilding, Dell said the basic skills taught by EAA made up the basis of the knowledge that allowed him to tackle building the Yak-110. "It kind of all started with the basic skills you learn in the EAA workshops, through the magazine, and all the other resources," he said. "All of the things that allowed me to do this project started with the basic homebuilding skills." ATR MAKES ITS COMEBACK TO THE US ATR and NAC sign a deal for 15 ATR -600s to be operated by Florida-based carrier Silver Airways. Photo © ATR The aircraft order is also particularly significant given that it commemorates the 100th new aircraft order that NAC has placed with the world's leading regional aircraft manufacturer. It is further testament to the lessor's commitment to strengthening its position as the global leader in the regional aircraft leasing space. The delivery and subsequent entry into service of the first -600 aircraft under the livery of Silver Airways will take place in March of this year. The aircraft, an ATR 42-600, will be configured with 46 seats in a 2-2 seating configuration, with a pitch of up to 32 inches. The remaining deliveries are expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2020. Crew training will be conducted by ATR at its new training facility in Miami, which is home to a Full Flight Simulator (FFS) for the ATR -600 series aircraft. The brand new ATR -600s will replace Silver Airways' existing fleet of 21 Saab 340B turboprops, while increasing the frequency of main routes and opening new air services to destinations in Florida, the southern United States and Caribbean. There are currently 250 turboprop aircraft aged over 15 years old operating in the US which will need to be replaced. The ATR -600 series, with a market share of 75%, the most modern, comfortable cabin in regional aviation and unbeatable economics is the ideal aircraft for airlines to modernise their fleets. TECHNOLOGY BREAKTHROUGH: NAVAL GROUP AND AIRBUS HELICOPTERS RESPONSIBLE FOR BUILDING THE FIRST DEMONSTRATOR OF A ROTARY-WING DRONE FOR A WARSHIP Paris, The DGA (Direction générale de l'armement) has just awarded a contract for technology development in the field of rotary-wing drones to the Naval Group and Airbus Helicopters consortium. The purpose of the contract awarded by the DGA is to identify, deploy and test the technologies necessary for the integration of a tactical drone-system capacity within a heavily armed vessel. It forms part of the preparation of the SDAM (Navy Airborne Drone System), whose entry into service is foreseen for the middle of the next decade on new Intermediate-Size Frigates (FTIs) and other French Navy ships. The study will help select the principal technologies for the SDAM and the identification of the technical risks necessary for initiating and realising the programme. The level of technological maturity sought is that of a demonstrator of the complete system in a representative environment. Naval Group, European leader for naval defence, and Airbus Helicopters, the world's leading producer of helicopters, will thus join their complementary competencies and know-how in the naval and aeronautic fields to prepare the French Navy's future rotary-wing drone system. The naval integration of aerial drones requires extensive experience of the technical and operational hurdles and the Navy's missions in order to define robust and evolutive system architectures that help meet every need. Naval Group and Airbus Helicopters shall be jointly responsible for the industrial project management and shall coordinate wider input from French industry/sector. To this end, Naval Group and Airbus Helicopters shall act as the programme design authority and shall have Hélicoptères Guimbal, Safran, Thales and ONERA as their principal subcontractors.
