Witbank Breakfast Fly-Inn - 25 February 2012

By Adam Barnard

It usually does not take much arm twisting to get me in a plane, so when I was invited along to the Witbank Breakfast Fly Inn on Saturday 25 February, I grabbed the opportunity without hesitation.

Arriving at Witbank just before seven, we were welcomed by Willie Venter and his team from the "Witbank Aeronautical Association" who hosted the Fly-Inn event. A real "South African Breakfast" was served with boerewors, mieliepap, eggs and fresh home baked bread.

The circuit became busy with aircraft arriving from Marble Hall, Nylstroom and Pretoria to name just a few. Aircraft ranged from a Sky Ranger to a V-tail "Bonnie", a Bushbaby to a couple of Cirrus 22T's. Jabiru also proved to be very popular with at least five attending.

I was treated to a flip in ZS-VNE, a Glassair III owned by Henri Westerman from Witbank and I was really impressed by the speed, the sleek looks and the fine handling characteristics of this beauty.

I also found a few interesting aircraft hiding in some of the hangars and hope to see them more at other fly-inns and events.

Willie Venter confirmed that they plan to host a few more breakfast events throughout this year and I will certainly attend it again.
